Desert Area Resources and Training (DART) provides employment, support and learning options for clients referred to us through the Kern Regional Center system. Regional Center clients are persons with intellectual disabilities, seizure disorders, cerebral palsy, autism and traumatic brain injury.
Services available for our clients include a wide assortment of job opportunities. We also have a large Supported Living Services program that enables persons to live independently by providing simple supports needed to ensure success. We host an independent self advocacy program, the Desert Dwellers People First.
Our preschool, the Therese M. Hall Preschool Center, is open to the entire community and offers an individual program for toddlers as well.. Its innovative peer modeling philosophy places children with disabilities beside normative children. Children with disabilities pattern themselves on normative peers and make greater gains in development and confidence. Normative children develop habits of acceptance that enrich their lives and the community for years to come. Our program offers age appropriate, individually set programs for students as well as USDA approved menus. Teacher to student ratios at the school are 1:3.
Our preschool also has Early Childhood Services Program for infants from birth to one and one and one half years who are not meeting their milestones. A trained therapist visits the homes to work with both parents and children.
