On Wednesday, February 7 at 7 p.m., 2010’s Oscar® award-winning Best Picture of the year strikes a British note with the true story of the trials of future King George VI’s asscention to the throne. Possessing a severe speech impediment and unable to recite the most simple of public messages, “Bertie,” as he was called by friends and family, faces the daunting task of leading his country into the throws of war with Germany, after his brother (the future Duke of Windsor) declines the throne to marry an American divorcee. With the help of his devoted wife, who secures a brilliant teacher, he confronts his problems in truly gallant fashion. The film is a stirring epic of tenacity and true friendship in the face of difficult challenges. Colin Firth received a much-deserved Best Actor Oscar® for his performance. He is ably supported by a brilliant ensemble of players that includes Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter, Guy Pearce (as the churlish Duke) and Clare Bloom. Don't miss this one!
